December Poem Contest

Life as a Horse Tells it

by SNGG & Snow White Glitter Girl    age  12

Independent spirits

Mended legs

These things are essential

Joyful whinnies

Happy days

These make us complete.

No matter how

Worn we are

Ending each sad hour

We find jollity

In friskiness

Of month-old horses’ feet.

We try to play

As happily

As we did in old times

To join the colts

And little fillies

In their happy games.

Running free

Wind in hair

Youth replenish us

We run and buck

And shout out calls

Heedless of our names.

Old horses die

Young ones born

Though forever we shall wander

Across the hill

And dale and glade

And lake and forest yonder.
